About Us

Wayne and Julia

Serenity Acres Farm is a small sustainable farm located in beautiful Madison County Florida.

Have you ever thought about the origin and quality of food that is generally available on the supermarket shelves? The ingredients of all this processed food are downright scary. Fresh fruit and veggies? Trucked in from Mexico or Peru or California, thousands of miles and often are grown and picked under conditions that are unsanitary at best. Fresh and healthy dairy products? Produced on commercial feed lots where animals are stacked, stuffed full with antibiotics and growth hormones, with dire consequences for the animals, the environment, water quality, and the consumer. And of course, all the preservatives in the processed foods. Flour is stripped of all nutrients, bleached and enriched. MSG, preservatives, chemicals. Bring a dictionary and read the labels. After learning more about that food in supermarkets, we decided we needed to do better and decrease our foot print on our earth. We are shopping local produce where possible, supporting local farmers and family farms. Local farming is being regenerated by increased demand for quality food that has not traveled thousands of miles to your local grocery store and been filled with preservatives to make sure it still looks presentable when you take it to the checkout line. We have also started growing our own fruits and vegetables, have our own chickens for eggs, and our own dairy goats for milk and cheese.

Of course, this all sounds very easy, but it is not. It is a step-by-step learning process and we are far from perfect. But every step is a step in the right direction. We have not stopped at food. We are also working on reducing our energy consumption. We have switched out every light bulb, we metered all electricty consumption, unplug devices like the TV and computer when not in use to eliminate ghost loads, but we still drive cars that use less than 20mpg. They are paid off, here we are trading no debt vs. less impact. But we are converting what we can to solar and are generating quite a bit of our power needs that way. We have also started composting and are recycling a lot.

Don't butt your heads against the wall - stand up for your right to good and healthy food and a healthy planet. You don't have to be perfect and do it all at once - but every step helps you and the Planet.
